Cinema Supper Club: Berliner Film Fest
In celebration of the special exhibition, The State Museums of Berlin and the Legacy of James Simon, Cinema Supper Club at the Legion of Honor presents the Berliner Film Fest, a five-week series of films made or set in Berlin.
Now in its fifth season, the Thursday evening series begins October 23 and features a film screening at the Florence Gould Theater, a special menu in the Legion Café, and extended evening hours in which to view the special exhibition.
Movies begin at 8:00pm
Oct 23: Metropolis (1927, 123 mins)
Fritz Lang's futuristic film is set in the year 2026, in the extraordinary Gothic skyscrapers of a corporate city-state, the Metropolis of the title. Society has been divided between the ruling class and the workers who threaten revolt.
Oct 30: Cabaret (1972, 124 mins)
It is the city of Berlin in 1930, a time when political unrest racks the country, the economy has been destroyed, and millions of unemployed roam the streets. Enter into this chaos an American cabaret dancer (Liza Minnelli), working at the downtown "Kit-Kat club" where anything goes on the stage.
Nov 6: Grand Hotel (1932, 112 mins)
In a plush hotel, the lives of its disillusioned occupants and staff intertwine. Greta Garbo, John Barrymore, and Joan Crawford star.
Nov 13: Run Lola Run (1998, 81 mins)
Fate controls the outcome in three different ways when a woman tries desperately to save her boyfriend, who has carelessly lost a great sum of money.
Nov 20: Wings of Desire (1987, 127 mins)
In a bleak but beautiful Berlin, two angels provide comfort to humans until one falls in love with a circus performer and wants to become human himself.
Supper: Visitors can enjoy a range of gourmet appetizers, entrees, and desserts in the Legion Café during Cinema Supper Club. The expanded Cinema Supper Club menu is available in both the café bar and dining area. Reservations are recommended (first seating at 6pm) and must be made separately by calling 415.750.7633.
Cinema: Screen begins at 8pm; exhibition open until 9pm. Tickets are $20 ($10 members) for the movie and special exhibition. For the special exhibition only, admission is $15 (members are free). Ticket are on a first-come, first-served basis and do not include reservations or the price of dinner.
Entrance note: The main entrance of the museum will be closed. Please enter through the North side of the building, Terrace Level, at the top of the ramp.
