Mary Stuever Lecture and Book Signing
Mary Stuever, Fire Ecologist and Forester, has spent two decades working in the Southwest. In that time, U.S. forests have faced serious crises: the threat of impending wildfires on residential areas, insect outbreaks and forest animals’ loss of habitat among them. Stuever documents the challenges and changes in forestry from her unique view as a woman in a male-dominated profession and will share from work along the Rio Grande bosque and across the high deserts and mountains, exploring the relationship between the land and its people.
Mary Stuever is a forester for the State of New Mexico. Her syndicated column, "The Foresters Log", appears in newspapers and communities scattered throughout the U.S. and Canada. Her essays have appeared in A Mile in Her Boots; she is the co-editor of Field Guide to the Sandia Mountains. Her new book, The Foresters Log, will be available after the talk.
